Flesh or Zombie colored nail polish- I used Zoya Avery because it is a close match for my uber pale skin, but you can choose the color that best suits your skin tone or go green/grey for zombie flesh!
Slightly darker flesh colored nail polish (optional) – I used Zoya Flowie
Red nail polish – I used American Apparel Downtown LA
Blood Red nail polish – I used a mixture of American Apparel Downtown LA + Barielle Unravelled Rust
Black nail polish – I used American Apparel Hassid
Fast-Drying topcoat – I used Seche Vite.
Your finger :-D
Nail art brush
Acetone
Flat, stiff-bristled brush

What to do:

1. Paint your nails with red polish, one coat is fine. Let dry.

2. With your flesh-colored polish, paint 2-3 coats– whatever it takes to cover the red.

3. Add a coat of the fast-drying topcoat.

4. Let the polish dry for a minute or so, then gently touch it to see if it leaves indentations. If it does this without coming off on your finger, proceed to step 5. If not, wait a bit longer, then repeat.

5. Using your finger from the other hand (I found my thumb was easiest), gently slide the polish away from the cuticle end of the nail, taking care not to tear. Try to make realistic wrinkles/puckers, not smears.

6. With your blood-red polish, paint over all the exposed red areas. You’re doing this not only for color, but for disgusting texture as well.

7. Next, mix your blood-red polish with your black polish and trace the edges of the ‘skin’. Lightly drag the brush away from the skin edge a bit in places to add a little shading for dimension.

8. Add a drop of the fast-drying topcoat to your palette. (I use an index card). Let it start to dry a bit (you want it gloopy). When it’s an acceptable consistency, use your nail art brush to paint over any ‘bloody’ areas. Remember, texture is key! Gloopy bumps and stuff only add to the effect.

9. OPTIONAL – For a bit more depth in the folds/wrinkles, dab a little of the darker flesh colored polish on a finger from your opposite hand, and gently rub the color into ONLY the flesh part- taking care to get it in the wrinkles.

10. Use your flat, stiff-bristled brush and a bit of acetone to clean up the edges, this gruesome, gory, Halloween design is ready to make your friends scream in terror or squirm with delight!
